The cameras see through bugs better than I do

This windshield is what a southern interstate does to a car in the summer. Every one of those specks used to be airborne, and the front cameras live behind that same glass. People ask whether the car goes blind when the windshield gets filthy, and the honest answer from my seat is: later than I do. FSD kept right on driving through bug country without complaint, and on the rare occasion it does get uneasy, it says so on the screen, FSD degraded due to weather, and drives more carefully. Which is the same thing I'd do. But don't take that as permission to run it dirty. Everything this car knows about the world comes in through glass. Bugs, road film, one lazy wiper streak right at camera height, it's all subtraction. The squeegee at the gas station you no longer visit turns out to be a squeegee at the Supercharger, and I hit it at almost every stop. Cheapest maintenance in the whole ownership experience: keep the glass clean, and the car sees better than you do.
