The car can now take over if I’m not paying attention

Software 2026.27.6 landed with FSD v14.3.9, and the release notes have something new in them: Automatic Collision Evasion. Tesla’s description is that FSD will switch itself on while you are driving manually if a frontal collision is about to happen and braking alone will not avoid it, or if the car decides you are not paying attention, or if FSD got knocked off without you meaning to. Then it keeps driving.

I’m excited to see it added.

The catch for me is that I try to run FSD around the clock, so the car is almost never in the manual driving this is built for. It may be a while before I see it do anything. As I understand it, some of it only works at 20 mph and above, and I would just as soon never find out how the front-end collision part works.

What I have noticed is the attention side. Look away long enough and the car will take over. I may give that one a test run soon.
