Why did FSD drive right past the open Superchargers?

From the Driver’s Seat · Oct 8, 2026 · v14.3.10
Top-down diagram drawn to scale of the eight-stall Supercharger row at the Towanda service area on the Kansas Turnpike: six stalls marked open, one with another Tesla charging, a red Model Y driving along the front of the row and then turning away, a ring where the driver stopped it, and a path back into the end stall.
What it did, drawn to scale. Every stall but one was open. The ring is where I stopped it.

So here’s the story. I’m on the turnpike between Kansas City and Wichita, Kansas, and I need to stop at a charger. I already had one picked out through the FSD routing.

The car pulls into the turnpike service area at Towanda, where the Tesla chargers are. The Tesla chargers are on the far side of the service area. It drives over to the chargers. It literally drives right by the front of the row of chargers. There was one other Tesla charging at the time. Then it made a left and began driving off in a different direction, as if it somehow did not recognize the Tesla Superchargers.

The screen in my car showed the Tesla charging spots, and it showed that they were open. Yet it still didn’t make any attempt to back into one. It began driving off to a different part of the service area.

I stopped it, because I didn’t want to waste a lot of time wandering around the service area until I figured out where it was going. I pulled into a charging spot myself. But that seemed like very odd behavior to me.
