My car keeps picking the handicapped spot

From the Driver’s Seat · Sep 18, 2026 · v14.3.9
Top-down diagram of a fairly full parking lot: a red Model Y in the drive aisle, a dashed path into a blue marked accessible space with the wheelchair symbol, a ring where the driver stopped it, and a second path to an open regular space.
What it did, drawn to scale. The blue space is the one FSD picked. The ring is where I stopped it.

This one happened again yesterday, and it happens a lot. Set aside that FSD is not the best chooser of parking spots to begin with. I pulled into a lot that was relatively full, and the car proceeded to select a clearly marked handicapped spot. An accessible space, no question about what it was. So I stopped it and moved the car to a different spot myself.

I’m the driver, so that ticket would have been mine, and that space belongs to somebody who needs it. Catching that kind of thing is my job. When the screen asked why I took over, I told it that was a parking issue.

One thing about this I find interesting. I’m fairly confident FSD can see signs. Stop signs, for sure. I believe it reads other kinds too, like the ones that say no right turn at this intersection between certain hours, the school zone kind of thing. So it strikes me as rather odd that it hasn’t figured out how to identify a handicapped parking spot.

And this is one I have not seen get any better at all since I’ve owned the car. The driveway got better. The nagging went away. This hasn’t moved.
